Swinging
They say that our greatest technological achievements are born out of the horrors of war, including new machines and medicines. However, what might not have been realised is that there are also certain sexual practices that have their routes in such places. It is only speculation of course, but one of these is swinging, the activity whereby a married couple (or those in a committed relationship) engage in sexual activities with another couple or individual.
Some say that is has its origins in the United States Airforce in World War II. Bonds between pilots and soldiers are high during times of conflict and the activity could be the result of pilots trusting their co-pilots to look after their wives if they are hurt or killed. Another theory is that in the 1950s swinging originated from US Air Force Pilots in the California desert, eventually spreading to the public domain after the Korean War ended.
Swinging itself has various activities not just limited to have sexual intercourse with a member of another marriage. This is why the term wife swapping is not adequate to describe swinging. Practices could range from exhibitionism to voyeurism and further along to group sex. Whatever occurs and however it originated, swinging is a popular activity which will continue to thrive.
